Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!
