Foods That Can Make You Happy
Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and be happy!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
Some grains are truly great for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
