Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating some eggs to cheer up!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
Some grains are truly great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
