Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for raising your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest them faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
