Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are great at battling depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
