Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really healthy and good for you. There are several foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you wish to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
