Instructions to make The Bahraini Madrouba:
  1. Put the chicken pieces in a saucepan and pour enough water over the pieces to cover them. Place the saucepan over medium heat. When the water boils, reduce heat and remove the fatty liquid on the top.
  2. Fry the onions and garlic with oil in a saucepan over medium heat until they turn golden then add in the rice, tomatoes, green pepper and coriander. Stir the ingredients well.
  3. Add the rice and vegetables mixture to the saucepan then add the tomato paste, pepper and salt. Stir often so that the rice won’t stick in the bottom of the saucepan and the ingredients get mixed well.
  4. When the ingredients start to boil, cover the saucepan tightly and leave over low heat until the chicken is cooked. You can add more hot water and salt if the rice hasn’t cooked or softened yet.
  5. Hit the ingredients with a wooden spoon towards the sides of the saucepan (that’s why it is called Madrouba, which comes from the word “hit” in arabic) until the chicken combines with rice and all the ingredients become mashed and homogeneous. You can use a typical “madrab” or wooden garlic crusher instead of the wooden spoon.
  6. Pour the Madrouba in a serving bowl and serve hot.

Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating a few eggs to jolly up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Some grains are really great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try several of these instead!
