Foods That Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you want to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these tips instead!
