Foods That Make You Happy
For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.
If you want to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods too!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
