Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should keep away from them. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
