Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are great at combating depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew green tea could help you be better. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
