Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food
In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are terrific at combating depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.
If you want to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.
Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
