Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. Some foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!
As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
