Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to stay away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

If you want to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
