Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nourishing and good for you. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel low when you are starving! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that it helps you to raise your moods also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
