Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you want to be in a better mood. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
