Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to stay away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to discover, are terrific at combating depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and feel better!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you would like to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you are aware that it can help raise your mood too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
