Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Go with these suggestions instead!
