Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nourishing and good for you. Some foods honestly do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods too!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
