Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. Some foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are great at combating depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel better!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you want to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. And now you know it can help you be happier also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Test out these hints instead!
