Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at dealing with depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body.
