  3. Mix well again, microwave for 1 minute. Repeat 2 times. If the sheet becomes stiff in the meantime, use a rubber spatula to mix it. When it comes together in one mass, add the butter and knead it in.
  4. When you add the butter it will temporarily separate, but if you keep mixing it will come together again. Take the mass out onto a sheet of plastic wrap, spread out to about a 16 x 16 cm square, and put in the freezer.

Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Try consuming a few eggs to jolly up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel happier. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can really help to better your mood. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
