Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods honestly do raise your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
