If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are great at fighting depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body.
