Use Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.
If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
Some grains are actually wonderful for repelling bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods too!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
