Use Food to Boost Your Mood
For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you would like to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling starved can really bring you down! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
