Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. There are some foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
