Foods That Make You Happy
Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at dealing with depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
If you want to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
