Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know green tea can help you be happier also!
See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
