Use Food to Improve Your Mood
In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
