Foods That Can Make You Happy
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel better!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.
If you want to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is actually great for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood also!
So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
