Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are fantastic at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be better. And now you know it can help you be happier also!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
