Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. Several foods actually do raise your mood when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling famished can really make you feel awful! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
