Use Food to Boost Your Mood
In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine.
