Foods That Can Make You Happy
For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood as well!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
