Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
