Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. Some foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine.
